Erasmus+: What is it?

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme for education, training, youth and sport in Europe. This programme is part of the European Union’s educational policies and pursues the objectives of European Education Area 2025.

The new program for the period 2021-27 was presented in April 2021. In this new stage, the aim is to reach more children, young people and adults with more inclusive, sustainable and digital projects.

The priorities of this program are set out in four main areas:

Inclusion and diversity: The program aims to promote equal opportunities and access, inclusion, diversity and equity in all its actions.

Digital transformation: in line with the strategic priorities of the Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027).

Environment and the fight against climate change: these issues are priorities for the European Union now and in the future. The programme will be a key instrument for creating knowledge, capacities and attitudes in relation to climate change and sustainable development.
Participation in democratic life: The program aims to promote and raise awareness of the common values of the European Union, the principles of unity and diversity and its social, cultural and historical heritage.

Actions of the Erasmus+ Program

The Erasmus+ programme is structured around three main lines of Key Actions (KA), in addition to the Jean Monnet actions:

Key Action 1 (KA1): Mobility of people for learning purposes.

This action includes various types of mobility, both for teachers and students. Training activities for staff are varied and include periods of observation of good practices or teaching in other European educational centres, to specific training courses that address the needs of their institution.

Key Action 2 (KA2): Cooperation between organizations and institutions.

Partnerships for cooperation aim to acquire experience in international cooperation, exchange good practices with partners from other countries and create international networks, produce joint results of an innovative and high-quality nature, and develop and strengthen their capacities.

Teacher training centers, universities, libraries, educational centers, museums, NGOs, associations, companies in the sector, among others, can participate.

Key Action 3 (KA3): Support for educational policies and cooperation

This key supports political cooperation at the European Union level by helping to develop new policies that promote modernization and reform in the fields of education, training, youth and sport.

Jean Monnet Actions

They aim to increase knowledge about the European Union in educational institutions in the programme countries to be more participatory and to support education providers in the design and development of up-to-date training activities on European Union issues for teachers in educational centres.

The internationalization process of the CEE Can Rigol

Can Rigol already has a long history of internationalization that began with participation in a Comenius program “A Taste of Europe”, developed between 2012 and 2014 with great educational success.

With this previous experience and the desire to continue innovating our educational practice and bringing Europe closer to our students, the center worked to partner with other schools and obtain a grant to carry out a new European project. In this way, our center became the first public special education center in the entire Catalan territory to receive a grant to develop the Erasmus+ Program, thanks to its participation in the 2014 call.

The Erasmus+ project “Artemotion Xpress in Europe” (2015-1-EL01-KA219-013904_1), developed between 2015 and 2018, aimed to improve communication and the expression of emotions through art and the use of digital tools in a transversal way.

The association with special education schools in Grècia, Romania, Polònia, Eslovènia i Alemanya, It obtained high-quality results and the project was awarded the success story distinction, example of good practice and the 2021 European Prize for Innovative Teaching from the European Commission.

From February 2023 until December 31, 2027, Can Rigol is also accredited as an Erasmus+ center, which allows projects lasting between one and two years to be developed. In this way, the European dimension of the center is enhanced through mobilities of professionals and students and training activities.

The center is currently developing a two-year project with code 2023-1-ES01-KA121-SCH-000130305 whose objectives are:

Promote inclusion: through practices that promote the participation of our students in the community, thus fostering their autonomy and self-determination.
